Weninger | 2017 ‘Kirchholz’ Burgenland Blaufränkisch
The Kirchholz vineyard borders directly on the Hochäcker vineyard. Only a farm track separates the two. Yet here, the topsoil is mixed with sandy gravel to a depth of up to half a meter, making the soil more permeable. The subsoil, with its clay and loam content, is similar to that of Hochäcker. Blaufränkisch grapes grow here on vines up to 60 years old.
To highlight the characteristics of the stony soil, we have been vinifying the grapes from these plots separately since 2003. The wine is fruitier, more pronounced, more vibrant, and, due to the age of the vines, has more character and vibrant tannins.
