Most Pinot Grigio is technically correct and quietly forgettable. The Jesera is something else. Named for a single vineyard on Venica & Venica's estate in the Collio — one of Italy's most expressive white-wine appellations, right on the Slovenian border — this wine is built from vines whose gray-pink berries trace back to a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir. Light skin contact lends a coppery blush and a generously rounded texture; the finish is quietly stony and mineral. This is Italian white wine for people who've given up on Italian white wine.
