La Cigarrera | Manzanilla
-Local Athens Pick-up Only-
This elegant and classic Manzanilla is produced by Bodegas La Cigarrera, a historic winery located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain. Established in 1758 as an almacenista, La Cigarrera began bottling its own wines in 1997 under the guidance of ninth-generation cellar master Ignacio Hidalgo. The name "La Cigarrera" pays homage to the women who once sold tobacco on the streets of Sanlúcar, symbolizing the pride and history of this Andalusian town.
La Cigarrera Manzanilla is aged for an average of four to five years in a solera system, with the unique microclimate of Sanlúcar de Barrameda fostering the growth of a special "flor" yeast year-round. This biologically aged wine has a high-intensity nose, featuring briny and chalky notes, almonds, and hints of chamomile, citrus zest, and herbs. On the palate, it presents smooth complexity with salty notes, seaweed, peanuts, bitter almonds, citric undertones, and a touch of fennel and green olives.
Pairings
This versatile Manzanilla pairs beautifully with a variety of seafood dishes, including oysters, shrimp, and clams. Its bright acidity and complex flavors also complement fried fish and light appetizers. Perfect for enjoying chilled as an aperitif or alongside a meal, this wine is a true representation of its terroir. -AO
