Terre Siciliane Bianco Orange Wine 2024
Biddizza means "beauty" in Sicilian dialect — and if this wine were a person, it would be the beautiful, slightly eccentric one who takes a left turn when everyone else goes right. It's made by TASI Wines, a project by the Fasoli Gino family that brings their long experience with natural viticulture in northern Italy to the sun-baked soils of Sicily.
The wine is 90% Catarratto and 10% Zibibbo (the Sicilian name for Muscat of Alexandria), farmed organically and fermented with native yeasts through extended skin contact — an ancient technique that turns white grapes amber and extracts phenolic texture you'd never get from a standard white wine. The 2024 pours a vivid deep amber-orange. The nose opens with fresh peach, dried orange peel, fennel, and a hint of almond. The palate is dry and medium-bodied, with a satisfying tannic grip and a long, savory-mineral finish.
Orange wines like this one sit between worlds — pair it with the things you'd struggle to match with either red or white: spicy food, fatty charcuterie, miso-glazed fish, roasted cauliflower, aged Pecorino. Terre Siciliane IGT, Sicily, Italy. Organic. 2024.
