Gonzales Bastias | Pais en Tinaja
This unique and expressive red wine is produced by Viña González Bastías, located in the Maule Valley of Chile. Known for their dedication to traditional winemaking and sustainable practices, Gonzales Bastias crafts wines that honor the heritage and terroir of their region.
"Pais en Tinaja" is made from 100% País grapes, harvested manually in March from granitic soils on the banks of the Maule River. The wine is crafted using traditional methods, including manual crushing with a bamboo zaranda, open fermentation with native yeasts, and manual punch downs. It is aged for 12 months in 300-year-old clay amphorae, resulting in a wine that is unfiltered and full of character.
The wine showcases a vibrant light purple hue and an aromatic bouquet of red and black fruits, with hints of cinnamon, anise, and earthy undertones. On the palate, it offers a complex mix of bright fruit flavors, balanced by fine-grained tannins and a refreshing acidity. The clay amphora aging adds a unique mineral texture and depth to the wine.
Pairings
This versatile País pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, earthy stews, and hearty vegetable dishes. Its bright acidity and rich profile make it an excellent match for traditional Chilean cuisine, charcuterie, and aged cheeses. Ideal for enjoying with a meal or on its own to appreciate its intricate flavors. -AO
